Holiday snaps

A very good morning to you all.

As you can see, we're just back from a lovely holiday in Dorset.

 Lyme Regis

Beautiful Sherborne Castle, which was built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594.

Lulworth Cove, part of the Natural World Heritage Coastline.

Violet's very first horse riding lesson.

The pretty little village of Stoke Abbot, where we stayed.

This was our little holiday home for the week

Ammonites and Belemnites which yours truly found on Charmouth Beach, which is part of the Jurassic Coast.  They were just lying about on the beach, in amongst the pebbles and rocks.  I'm wondering whether I could get the two Ammonites in the middle made into a pair of cufflinks for Violet's daddy. They'd make a great 40th birthday present, don't you think? Must look into that.

What a lovely holiday we had.

  1. Lovely photos Jill! What a beautiful part of the country, I'm amazed that you can just pick up fossils!!! Your little cottage was beautiful!
Violet obviously had a brilliant time, I love the splashing photo.
I remember my daughters first riding lesson, it became a weekly event, she adored it, so beware!!! :)

    1. It's true - the fossils were just lying in amongst the rocks and pebbles. You just have to keep a good eye out.
Violet splashing in the sea is one of my favourite photos - I just caught it right didn't I?

  2. It looks like you've had a wonderful time. I've never been to Dorset but it's on my list. Violet looks like a natural on the horse, be careful, she'll be wanting a pony.

    1. We had a brilliant time thanks, Jo. There are some pretty places to visit in Dorset, though the beaches are very pebbly (the ones we visited were anyway). Sherborne Castle is definitely a must visit - Children under 16 are free, adults only cost £10, which I thought was a great price. The town of Sherborne is very nice too.
I asked my mum & dad for a horse every birthday and Christmas for years - so if Violet is anything like me, she'll be adding one to her Xmas list too this year. Though she may just have to make do with the occasional lesson.

  6. I'm glad you had such a lovely time - it all looks great, thank goodness for such a nice summer here in the UK! (we normally go to Yorkshire, trust us to miss the one year when the weather is glorious). Your fossil finds are fantastic, especially the two Ammonites, which you are right, would make great cufflinks (fab idea). Bethx

    1. It boggles my mind to think about how old those fossils are.
I need to speak with one of my jewellery making friends to see if it's possible to make the two ammonites into cufflinks. Wish I'd found more of those, as I'd love to have one made into a charm for Violet's christening bracelet too.
