I'm having a love/hate relationship

I'm having a love/hate relationship with this sweater.

I originally cast on at the back end of January 2012!

I knit the entire body, but wasn't happy with it, at all.  I tried it on, decided that I wanted it a little bit longer, so tried to rip back the edging.

Oh dear!

 What-a-mistake-to-make.

Because I'd knit some short rows, trying to pick up stitches was impossible (for me).  I made such a mess of it, that I ended up unravelling the entire body, right to the shoulder saddles.

I'm sure all you knitters out there can feel my pain.

I decided to give it another chance, and in February I bought it out of hibernation.  I can't say that this is an enjoyable knit, which has nothing to do with the designer or the pattern, it's just that I'm finding this a bit of a beast and just want it finished.

Perhaps the colour doesn't help either.  I love grey, but it's not the most cheerful of colours to use when it's gloomy and cold all the time.  Note to self: knit using bright, cheery colours in the Winter time, save the greys for Summer.

I picked up the stitches for the second sleeve last night, so I'm in the final stages of what seems like a Marathon knit.  I just hope that I fall in love with it when I cross that finish line.

I get the feeling that this sweater is trying to tell me something.  That maybe I should stick to knitting simple things like hats and scarves. Basically any garment, which doesn't require me to do any workings out in order for it fit properly.

  1. I'm no good at taking stitches back. If I make a mistake I end up pulling the whole lot out and starting again. I think you'll fall in love with it when it's finished because it'll feel like an achievement to finish it.

  2. I have to say I admire your perseverance ' cos I too knitted a sweater last year which took so long I finally gave up and am crocheting a throw with the wool instead. Not sure when this will get finished but at least I don't have to worry about the fit. Yours is looking good I must say and I love the colour.

  3. Yep I feel your pain, I decided a long time ago not to knit myself garments, way to painful . Much easier knitting bunny clothes! :)

  4. Looks like it's going to be just fab. I know what you're going through though. I finished a jumper not long ago that was about to enter it's fourth year on the sticks. I. Had. To. Finish. I have to say I'm not in love with it but I don't hate it either, it's warm and when I wear it feel like I won!
    I haven't knitted anything since...
