Yellow

This morning I read a very disturbing news article about the 10 most dangerous places to live if you're a woman.  It really shook me up and made me think how privileged I am to have been born in the UK.  A country where women's voices are heard.  A place where a woman can give birth safely.  A place where I don't have to trek miles a day for water or food.  A place where I sleep safely in my bed every night.

I've got such a lot to be thankful for and sometimes I don't appreciate the fact that I'm safe, healthy, and have friends and family who love me.

What I'm worried about now, is the fact that I've read this article, it's disturbed me, but tomorrow I'll have forgotten about these women and girls.
You see, I don't want to forget about them.

So, whilst I think about what I can do (if anything), I'm going to talk about something a little more cheery.
Violet's bedroom is newly painted and I thought you might quite like a peek at another room.

She chose her favourite colour:  Yellow

The room isn't completely finished yet, as there are shelves and pictures to put up, but it's got most of the little ladies things in.

Just look at all those books.

I love, love, love this crocheted rabbit. I remember seeing it in a baby magazine whilst I was pregnant and just had to have one. He's/She's from Lindenfrench  (Oh my, I've just been on their website now to get you the link, and the homepage is full of crocheted rabbits, in all colours.  Plus, I've just found out that they sell a crocheted dinosaur - this is definitely a must Xmas present for Violet).

Do you recognise this little fella?  Of course, it's Max, from Where the Wild Things Are.

And, here's Winnie.  This moneybox is really mine, but he's yet another of my things, which seem to have been 'adopted' by Violet.

Aren't these Dragon's fab?  I used to see them in the window of a great little toy shop in York everytime I walked into the city.  One day I decided that one of these cute fellas would make an ideal gift for my cousin's little boy who'd just been diagnosed with cancer (he was only 2 at the time).  So, I bought him a baby Dragon and parcelled it up with a copy of Puff The Magic Dragon.  Needless to say they both made a wonderful gift.  When Violet came along, I went into the same Toy Shop and bought her the big Daddy Dragon.  Though he missed his little baby so much, I had to go back to the Toy Shop the next day and buy him.  It would have been cruel to seperate them, don't you think?

The Owl & The Pussycat box you can see on the left of the photo is actually a musical jewellery box.  It was a Christening gift from one of Violet's Godmothers.

Another wonderful crocheted toy by Anne-Claire Petit.

More cuties taking a nap on Violet's pillow.  The cat on the left was a prize I'd won over at Beth's blog (The Linen Cat).  The ballerina mouse on the right is another of Beth's wonderful creations, bought for Violet as a Xmas present last year.

Continuing with the Yellow theme, and because it's grey outside and I need a bit of sunshine, I decided to pop out and purchase a little Sunflower plant for Violet to tend.

Do any of you fancy joining me in a bit of fun to see how tall our Sunflowers will grow?

  2. I know what you mean about the article but if we worried about everything we read we might easily go mad! It would be great if there was something we could do as well as being grateful for what we have wouldn't it. What a lucky little girl Violet is to have such a lovely bedroom filled with toys and books too. You didn't say what happened to the little boy with cancer? Do hope he made a good recovery.

  4. Now Jill, why are you pointing me in the direction of more rabbits!!!!!
I love Violet's bright and sunny room and her lovely toys.
I think you're ahead on the sunflowers stakes already as the wind broke two of mine the other day. I have planted some more in the greenhouse, so fingers crossed they germinate and then I'll race you!! ;)

  5. What a lovely cheerful room - nice to see a change from the normal girly choice of pink.

No sunflowers here - I never really got into growing mode this year - shame :(

  6. Is it wrong that I really want to move into Violet's bedroom? Like immediately?

I also now really want to learn how to crochet a rabbit like that!

  8. It's good to be reminded how lucky we are and to remember that others need help to improve their lives. I agree, it is so easy to forget and find yourself moaning about little things (I'm guilty of doing that).

Loving V's new room and thanks for including the linen cat and mouse and a link, much appreciated. Bethx
