The weather is so miserable here at the moment, that all I want to do is snuggle up on the sofa with chocolate and my knitting.
I've got a few projects on the go at the moment (haven't we all), but managed to finish this very quick knit yesterday afternoon.
It's called The Failynn Fox Cowl designed by Heidi May.
Violet chose it.
It's blummin cute. Don't you think?
You'll have to excuse the crappy photos - it's been so dark here, there was hardly any light. Perhaps when the weather's a little better, I'll be able to take some outside in some natural light.
This was such a quick knit. Only a couple of evenings, then finishing up yesterday with the crochet edging - yes, I actually did a bit of crochet, but only the easy peasy stuff. Nothing too complicated.
The pattern calls for super bulky yarn, so I used Rowan Big Wool in Burnt Orange to obtain the foxy colour. It's quite expensive, about £8.95 a ball. I think I used just over 2 balls, which was a pain, because now I have nearly a full ball of it left. Perhaps I should use remainder to knit a pumpkin!
For the black and white sections around the neck and ears, I used Sirdar Big Softie Super Chunky in Meringue and Kitten. Thankfully, these are relatively cheap to buy at only a few pounds each.
All it needs now is a couple of buttons. I'm a little picky when it comes to buttons, so it might take me a while to find the perfect ones. Though Violet couldn't wait for the buttons, and wanted to wear it to school today. I wonder if she's actually taken it off!

Fabulous, I love it. You can see how pleased Violet is with it by the huge grin on her face, she's such a cutie. I bet all her friends will want one when they see Violet's, you'll have to take commissions.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo. One of the mums already asked me, but I saw her face change when I told her how much the yarn cost! People don't realise how expensive wool is. I might see if the Sirdar Big Softie Super Chunky comes in an Orangey/Brown colour - that would reduce the price a little.
ReplyDeleteIt's brilliant Jill, Violet will definitely be the star of the show today!
ReplyDeleteAn absolutely wonderful knit! :)

Thanks :0) I bet she's worn it all day. Someone's gonna be coming home with a very sweaty head!! xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful as are all the things you make. I have the answer for your spare ball of wool Jill - buy some more and make yourself one!! I hope that Violet has managed to let herself be parted with the cowl for a little while, as otherwise as you say, she will be a very hot little girl. xx
ReplyDelete:0) I'm not sure that I'm brave enough to walk down the high street wearing a matching Fox cowl.
DeleteViolet came out of school wearing it, but her teacher had asked her to take it off whilst she was there. I'm just hoping she doesn't want to wear it for bed tonight!!!! xx
That's awesome and it looks great on Violet! I love foxes. I'm not sure I'd wear a fox cowl myself but my daughter would love it. I've been looking at fox amigurumi patterns lately, thinking about making a small toy for my son's Christmas stocking. He likes foxes and I like to tell him he has foxy hair because it's slightly ginger. :)
ReplyDeleteWe love foxes here too. We have two that live at the bottom of our garden, so we see them most days, one has even been known to fall asleep on our garden in the sunshine. Hope you manage to perfect Amigurumi fox pattern for your son's Xmas stocking. x
DeleteIt's great and wow, isn't miss V growing up! Bx
ReplyDeleteThanks Beth. I know, she's growing far too quickly :0( xx
